History of Music
All Western Music is based on the 1, 4, 5 rule
In the early part of the 20th century the music hierarchy was dominated by the music publishers
Most music was written in Bb & Eb because the piano was the dominant instrument and Bb & Eb were the easiest keys signatures to play on the piano
Tin Pan Alley was the name given to the area or street in a city like New York or London where the song writers, music publishers and musicians congregated to ply their trade much as Fleet street used to be the place where newspapers were published.
As the song writers became more refined in their writing they and the public became more demanding and they introduced key changes within the songs as a way of making them more interesting.
The diminished and augmented chords were used to effect key changes more seamlessly and to ‘colour’ the music even more.
The sixties revolution brought about radical changes to the system and records became the way of making money and music publishing went into decline
